Eat the Runt by Avery Crozier

CHARLOTTE, NC, June 26, 2017 – Donna Scott Productions, the resident theatre company of The Charlotte Art League, announces its fall show of 2017: Eat the Runt, a comedy by Avery Crozier. This joint production with the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture and The Charlotte Art League will run September 7-23, 2017. The opening night performance will be held on September 7 at the Gantt Center in Uptown Charlotte, at 551 S. Tryon Street. All other performances will be at the Charlotte Art League, 1517 Camden Road in South End. Show time is at 8 pm nightly. Eat the Run will be directed by Tonya Bludsworth and features Charlotte based actors Kevin Aoussou, Tracie Frank, Jennifer Grabenstetter, Andrea King, Ericka Ross, Stephen Seay, Kevin
Shimko, and Stephen West-Rogers.

Providing a completely novel and participatory theatre experience for Charlotte audiences, Eat the Runt requires that all eight actors in the cast learn every role and audition for the audience before each performance. The audience will cast the show using their smartphones and watch as the actors they cast deftly play out one of the over 40,000 possible casting combinations.

The plot of Eat the Runt follows Merritt, a grants manager candidate, through a series of increasingly bizarre interviews for a position at an esteemed art museum. Eat the Runt focuses a sharply comedic eye on the themes of political correctness, office politics, sexual harassment, religious persuasions, and societal and cultural norms related to gender and race. The result is a unique, hilarious and sometimes surprising performance that will never be the same show twice.

This production was made possible by our 2017 season sponsors Historic South End, Next Stage Consulting; our beer sponsor Triple C Brewing and a Cultural Vision Grant from The Arts and Science Council.
