October 5-26, 2012: “Art Beyond Sight”

Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month is a time when museums, schools, libraries and sighted and blind people from around the world come together to address the problem of making pictorial literacy and access to the world of art a reality for all blind people. CAL is joining over 200 venues worldwide in celebrating the tenth annual ABS Awareness Month.

Both sighted and blind artists are invited to exhibit their original artwork. Artists both sighted and visually impaired may create tactile and multisensory works of art expressly so that blind and visually impaired people can actively explore them.

Visitors will be able to experience art through touch: the raised elements of sculpture or mixed media, the texture of heavily applied paint and delicate lines of brushstrokes. CAL will provide large-print labels and descriptive wall text to accompany each artwork.
